The Taylor Mizell Foundation helped make a wish come true for Nic Boatright. On Saturday July 26, 2008, Nic finally got to meet Kevin Sharp at a benefit in Gadsden, Alabama. Kevin even called Nic on stage to help sing "Sweet Home Alabama" with the band.

When Kim Mizell heard that Nic had wanted to meet Kevin and knew he was going to be doing a concert to help raise money for other children with cancer, she went to work to help make it a reality. Nic was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in May of 2006 and underwent chemo in Birmingham for 9 months. Nic learned about Kevin from an article he had read in the Guidepost Magazine. Nic's mom posted a message in Kevin's guestbook and Sue Veldkamp, Kevin's Personal Assistant, contacted the clinic where Nic was receiving treatment to verfiy everything and went to work trying to help get Nic's wish granted.

Nic was too old for the original "Make A Wish Foundation," but Jason's Dreams for Kids, another wish organization, had made arrangements twice but both times Nic was too sick to travel and plans had to be changed.

Nic knew that Kevin was also a cancer survivor of Ewing's Sarcoma and is a recording artist and singer most famous for his song, "Nobody Knows."

In July, when Nic was in Birmingham for his routine scans, he mentioned to his mom and wife that he would still like to meet Kevin. When his mom got back to work, she looked up Kevin's website and saw where he would be in Gadsden.

Lisa called Sue and once again they got the ball rolling. Sue put Lisa in touch with Kim Mizell, the mother of Taylor who the foundation is named for, and soon the dream for Nic was a reality.

Taylor Mizell is the 15-year-old son of Clint and Kim Mizell, who died from Ewing's Sarcoma in 2006. The family wanted to continue to keep Taylor's memory alive and help other families dealing with cancer as people had done for them.

You can keep up with Nic and his progress here. Nic's scans in July were clear and returns in November 2008 for additional scans and blood work. Nic continues to thank his hometown, family and friends for the support and prayers that he has received.
