Dear Friends,
I have to tell you about an event I attended recently featuring Country Recording Artist Kevin Sharp! As most of you know, we are supporters of the Make A Wish Foundation. We received an invitation to attend a fundraising event for the Foundation and I have to tell you, it was an amazing event!
Not only was the Foundation able to raise thousands of dollars to be able to grant wishes for children in our area, we also had the treat of hearing Kevin's amazing "tattoo story!"
We had known that Kevin was a wish child - but what we didn't know was the story behind his tattoo (heck we didn't even know he HAD one!).
It was such a funny story that I wanted to share it with all of you! I hope I can express it in the same humor that Kevin told it to us - so here goes:
Of all the wonderful experiences Kevin has had with the Make A Wish Foundation, he's only had one complaint and he said it all goes back to a "stupid bet" he made with buddies at his record label. The bet was this: if his first song went to number one, everyone would get tattoos.
Kevin said he doesn't come from a tattoo family and he's not a tattoo kind of guy - but he felt safe because the odds of having your first song out go to number one is pretty close to being struck by lightning.
Low and behold it happened.
As wonderful and exciting as that was - it hit him rather quickly that he would have to tell his mother that he was going to have to get a tattoo. He said that scared him more than anything because "no matter how old you get, mom is still mom."
He said he didn't want to get a tattoo of anything that would change in his life - and he went on to tell us about his friends whose second wives were "not very appreciative" of their first wives names emblazoned across their chest!
He thought of many things - but they all had the possibility of changing.
So he went to his mom - "to include her in the decision-making process." He had to fess up that he couldn't get out of it because "like morons, we even signed a contract."
His mom instantly came up with the idea of tattooing the Make A Wish logo on his chest over his heart.
Kevin thought how perfect that was - because the meaning behind it and the possibility of the logo changing was impossible - or so he thought.
Low and behold - three years later - some other country joined the Make A Wish Family and the wishbone represented death in their culture. So the wonderful people at National - instead of giving them their own logo - decided to change it worldwide.
So - Kevin's got a wishbone above his heart.
